What Makes Me Tick

Welcome to my portfolio.

I've wanted to be a writer for as long as I can remember. Well, actually, if you want to get technical about it, before I wanted to be a writer I wanted to be He-Man. But shortly after I learned I'd never be a Master of the Universe, I picked up a pencil.

Since then, writing has become my passion. It's why I'm a copywriter. But it's also led to many other passions of mine. Such as penning my own graphic novel currently in production, Harvest Island.

Another part of what makes me who I am is Capoeira, a Brazilian martial art I teach and have practiced since 2005. Mixing combat with flowing movements, deception and music, Capoeira is an addiction I'm proud to have.

I also design T shirts for Capoeiraistas to wear and promote our martial art. I recently opened an online store.

Nalgene produces a line of various multi-colored, multi-functional, nearly indestructible water bottles. This is a campaign positioning Nalgene as a sponsor of Earth Day with a message for people to drink out of reusable products.

Dobies Healthcare Group is agency of record for Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Here are a few examples of short and long copy I've done.


Think Health
Think Health was created to raise awareness about the importance of health screenings as people get older. Below is an example for a particularly unpopular screening, colonoscopies.


Cardiology
Lawrence Memorial Hospital employees some of the nation's best Cardiologists, giving the phrase below all new meaning. These billboards were placed on I-70 toward Lawrence, Kansas.

AAF-KC Art of the Deal

Every year ad2, a division of AAF-KC, hosts a charity casino night. Posters, a mini site and note cards were used to get people in the door, and ultimately make for a record-setting night.

First National Bank of Olathe

First National Bank of Olathe opened a new branch. So, as any new neighbor should, they introduced themselves. We used door hangers and print ads to announce the opening. As a result, dozens of new accounts were opened the first day.
